Political Director Position summary:

 

The ORPE Human Rights Advocates (OHRA) is one of the political voice for the underprivileged, distressed or those who can't assert their own fundamental rights. OHRA is seeking a dynamic Political Director to lead our worldwide campaign efforts. The Political Director is a key member of the OHRA team who is expected to design and implement the organization’s electoral outreach programs. This is a full time position that reports to the OHRA President and is based in Baltimore, Maryland.  Who we are: ORPE Human Rights Advocates is one of the worldwide political voice for underprivileged, distressed or those who can't assert their own fundamental rights. We work to help establish rule of law ins a nation where rule of law is weak. We empower lives and families to  forge their own paths out of poverty. Empowering a next generation of strong enough & wise enough leaders expected to effect changes in organizations, communities, nations, or our world for the befits of people.

 

Working with allies in the community, we advocate for strong policies that put upfront the mechanism of rule of law and work to hold governing officials accountable during their mandates. Through our political work with our local partners, we will be influencing changes by helping strengthening laws that safeguard the health of communities, the beauty of nations and their economic future. We have a close partnership with Washington congressmen, representatives of different nations, and CEOs of enterprises who support the spirit of rule of law. OHRA is a 501(c)3 organization and has vocation of becoming instrument of relevance expected to work in the arenas that influence changes in organizations, communities, societies, nations, or our world for the benefit of people.  By effectively combining the policy know-how with the political know-how of the factors that hinder an organization, community, or a nation  to make a bold move toward the nations ruled under the spirit of rule of law, we can reshape the course of destiny of organization, communities, or a nation. 

 

Specific Responsibilities

 

  • Create and oversee implementation of OHRA’s political strategy including managing endorsements, independent expenditures, elected official accountability programs, and legislative campaigns.

  • Collaborate with OHRA's President on communications, messaging, and media.

  • Build relationships with stakeholders including candidates, elected officials, community groups, OHRA Board members, and donors.

  • Help ensure the success of our grassroots outreach and chapter programs.

  • Collaborate with OHRA President to manage political staff.

  • Work in partnership with the Member Education Program Director to design and implement 501(c)(3) nonpartisan voter education programs.

  • Coordinate with OHRA staff on legislative programs.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Extensive experience and leadership developing and implementing successful grassroots advocacy or electoral campaigns, including experience working on issues, or candidate campaigns or with political organizations.

  • In-depth knowledge and insights regarding mechanisms of implementing rule of law

  • Demonstrated ability for strategic planning, political communications, and working with coalitions.

  • Commitment to the human rights protection and political strategy.

  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend work and travel to meetings throughout the world.

Desirable

  • Experience working for an organization with several components (ie. PAC/ 501(c)(4)/ 501(c)(3))

  • Knowledge of the Voter Activation Network (VAN) and other campaign tools.

  • Demonstrated personnel management skills and budget experience.

  • Experience working with other important constituencies (labor, business, communities of color, or others).

Salary

  • Salary and Benefits Salary for this position will be based on experience.

  • OHRA provides health and dental insurance, a 401K plan and potential match, employer provided transit pass and ample vacation time as part of a comprehensive benefits package.
